Bonjour! Est-ce que vouz parlez la langue Francaise?
As part of the French Culturel Center of Amman activities (that I like so much) another Quiz night was held yesterday, people were divided into teams and in the first stage, two teams will fight, the winner will be enrolled in the finales.
Mobile phones were awarded to the first team, the second got some free books from PrimeMega Store and the third got a free course.
The questios were talking about the world of Francophone, our team had very tough questions that even French people themselves might not answer, as usual we lost from the early beginning, not a problem as long as we had some fun.
I respect what those people are trying to do for us, I like all the activities they organize, and the hard work they do, actually the “Spring Carnaval” that took place last month in “Jabbal Webdeh” was organized by them, children were so happy, and I can tell it was a great enjoyable fuss.
Thank you Mr. Xavier(Director) and everyone who works for the French Center and specially for the great Dema and Dema, you are the best!
I was enrolled in a training course this week, it was an extensive course about how you become a better Leader which is a worldwide recognized program provided by ILM
It was a great chance to enhance my skills, learn new skills, meet great well educated prestigious people and making me stomach happy for four days in a row as it was held in Amman Sheraton.
The trainer Mr. Ayman Al Sayed is a great teacher with very solid experience in Marketing, Team Leading and other interesting staff.
I had the pleasure doing all those comments, brain storming sessions, discussion circles and knowledge transfer talking.
Today I decided not to stop there, I went to PrimeMega store and bought two books that are talking about the same subject, I am very interested on what I have learned and need to read more.
First book I am reading will be “The Seven Habits” by Steven Covy, it seems to be a good one, I will write my opinion about it when I am done!
The Embassies of member States of La Francophonie and the Royal Film Commission of Jordan are pleased to invite you to attend
“La Francophonie Film Festival”
Date: Saturday 15th – Wednesday 26th of March 2008 Time: 6:30 pm, (except for the screening of “Azur & Asmar,” at 5:00 p.m.) Location: Al Balad Theater
I decided to start a new post series, I will call it Amman VIBES, in every new episode I will speak about a place in Amman, it might be modern, it might be old, but the purpose behind this is to tell people about places in Amman where they can have fun, by the way this idea is not new, actually Roba has started such an idea in her Urban Review which I like so much, but this time I will try to be less fancy and I will write most of the time about places where you can have fun spending the minimal amount of JDs or maybe shops that sell things you can’t find in West Amman and you think they don’t exist anymore.
Let’s give it a shot and see how this will go on!
Habiba, the best place to have “Konafa Nablsyeh” ever!
“Konafa Nablsyeh” for those who don’t understand Arabize is a Arabic dessert made of goat’s white cheese topped with shredded filo pastry drenched with a very hot sweet syrup (Qater) that comes optionally for people on diet, It was originally brought from Palestinian and from Nablus to be more exact and as it is obvious by the name.
Habiba is located on a small alleyway beside the Arab Bank building between King Faysal Street and Hussain Cinema Street(don’t know the official name of that street), downtown in the heart of Amman city!
you can have the best Konafa ever and it doesn’t coast so much, I went there with a friend last month and a dish of 250 grms was about 0.80 JDs (Allah Yr7am Ayam Zaman, Kanat bnos).
The secret there is where you eat that dish, actually there is no place inside, you have to stand outside on that alleyway staring at the dazzly lights and people’s faces, you can see people from the whole Jordanian Socity spectrum, you can see people in a hurry trying to catch a bus, you can see others trying to read newspapers’ headlines from the shop behind.
it takes about 10 minutes to enjoy that heavy meal, after then you start to feel thirsty like you have never drank water before, the place offers water from public water resources (7anafyeh) and if you don’t have the guts to do it! you can buy a bottle of mineral water from the shop 10 meters far.
When I stand there I smell ancient Amman, I start imagine myself living in the 1920s when this area was considered the most dynamic part of the city, actually it was the city. You can see the heart of Amman, the new modern dynamic and elegant city of our beloved Jordan.
I will go there in few days, maybe tomorrow if I had the chance and this is an open invitation for everybody to join me there!
I will start like this, I was born in Amman, raised in Amman, educated in Amman, had all my life spent in Amman, First Car in Amman, First Love in Amman, every single good and bad thing happened to me took place in Amman.
I won’t be Mr. Nashmmee today, but I will tell you something, one of the top reasons I don’t want to go to work in the Gulf is that I love Amman, I can’t leave my family, my friends the new neighborhood I have just moved in, the VIBES, drinking coffee with my friends in the car is one of the most enjoyable things of my life, 6alet el Jabal (Coffe Shop) all the places my friends and I go to every Thursday, so why to leave all that behind.
One day a Danish friend of mine who used to know that I am from Palestinian origin asked me a question, what is Palestine for you, I answered my heart, then he asked what about Jordan, I answered quickly, the other half of the heart, I am the son of this land so what do you think?
So, what do I like in Jordan and what I do dislike, let’s see
I will start with the good ones.
1-Amman is very clean, modern and charming
2-A lot of my friend ask me when they are in the US, if I need anything that they can get me from there? I simply answer: nothing, everything is available in Amman, all trademarks and so on (you will have to have the money for sure, I will come into this when I discuss things I dislike)
3-Safety and Security, just tell me where in the world you can walk down the street 02:00 AM in the morning not being afraid of being beaten or stolen.
4-The French Culture Center (Jabal Webdeh), one of the best places in the world for me, where I can learn French, talk to nice, civilized and well educated people.
5-Jabal Amman, I feel my father’s soul attached in the atmosphere, I can smell his perfume telling me (El Rgal he lebt3mal masare mosh el 3aks – Men are those who make money not the opposite)
6-Diving and Snorkeling in Aqaba, we have the most charming reef in the world. When I put my mask and start snorkeling I feel how much great God is, and how much blessed we are.
7-Mansaf, “Ya 7abibi lama akon ma3zoom 3ala mansaf” when I am invited to Manasaf, that would be my day, this event can book my whole day, specially when it is Friday, I eat mansaf and go into a comma (Batwafa)
8-Wasa6 El Balad (Down Town), The only 1 JD DVD, Sa7lab (Hot Drink) from the Mardynee’s Place, Kunnafah (Sweet) from Habibia, the top food of the world at Ma63am el Kods (Jerusalem Restaurant).
9-My Friends, whom I can’t find anywhere in the universe. good, well educated, open minded and nice people. where can you find someone like Mohd Adi and his sense of humor, Alaa, Laith, Mahoud, Hatem, Hani .etc..
10- The prices! O’ps this shouldn’t be here, Sorry.
About things I dislike, and some of them I believe we should work on them (we are the people) to get rid of them.
1-Traffic accidents and how much crazy people are when driving, I am crazy!
2-When I hear about fights in Universities between students, the University is somewhere to get educated and learn how to discipline, not to show your muscles.
3-Prices and Taxes, they are high!
4-When I hear about children being left behind. we all know why!
5-Taxi drivers, specially when he starts telling you a story about the girl he gave a ride yesterday. effffffffffft
6-Ignorant people, people who think themselves over the law, no one is above the law, this country has it’s law that should be respected and followed
7-Bad roads, today I had a flat tyre, when I went to the service station, the guy there said I should replace it, OMG!!!!! I have to pay 45 JDs to get a new one, this wasn’t the first time by the way.
8-Queues, whenever you want to do something you have to stand in a queue, when you want to buy bread “Khobez” you will have to stand in a queue, to renew you passport there is a queue, when to refuel your car you have to stand in a queue. even to go to the bathroom sometime you have to stand in a queue (bad smells).
9-Sales people, in this world when you get into a store to buy something, the sales person starts to treat you kind, make some jokes to attract you so you buy and he makes the deal, in Jordan we have the opposite, when I get into a store I (the one who is paying the f… money) start to play the nice person, I even sometimes make jokes so the Sales person can draw a silly smile on his face. If you decided not to buy you might hear something like “Naflet el ma7al o ma sharet!” you made a great miss and you don’t want to buy.
10- Careless people and people who don’t pay attention to other’s life’s, many people were poisoned last year because of unhealthy not well done food, I am paying money for that meal so I deserve to get a decent clean and well done one.
Listen! at the end I will say something, every where in this world has it’s goods and bads, ups and downs so let’s be fair with ourselves first….. Jordan is one of the best places in this world, and if you think otherwise please leave so others can have the chance to enjoy
Mmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!! I like it more than the old one, as you might know, I am new here and I am still trying to find an appropriate theme for my blog. I like this one! let’s give it a shot.
Ah by the way, I picked a new name “Mindfart”, I believe my mind needs it also! from time to time.
Naaaaaaa! The guys didn’t like the new name !!!! I picked a new one “Paroles” in French which means “Words”. it is more polite )
When I saw this video I was astonished, I didn’t say a word, I felt cold, my brain stopped functioning! actually this little girl has destroyed my world.
How can I help her????? I have no f…. idea, please let her come and take all what I have, my car, all the money in my bank account, everything everything…
But let her return one thing back to me…. my dignity.
I wonder how we can get a sleep every night while our families are being killed, how can we eat? how can we take our children places to enjoy their time and this little poor child does not have anything to wear or eat.
Listen, the whole world’s blogs won’t be enough to express how miserable I feel wright now
